Burlington, VT — Today, Marcelle Leahy endorsed Lt. Governor Molly Gray, a Democratic candidate in the race for Vermont’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“With so much at stake, I feel strongly about bringing a new generation of Vermont leadership to Congress. I am supporting Lt. Governor Molly Gray because her deep connection to rural Vermont means they will have a strong advocate in Congress. I want my grandchildren to have a role model who will fight for the rights of every Vermonter and every American,” Mrs. Leahy said. “Her legal training has prepared her to do just that. Lt. Governor Gray understands the challenges we face in Vermont but she also understands the United States must lead abroad. Her international experience will be extremely valuable in Congress.”
For over 50 years Marcelle Leahy has served Vermont and our nation as a frontline healthcare provider, a strong advocate for access to health services, and a vocal cancer survivor. She is an engaged supporter of the National Guard, Vermont Democratic Party, and numerous local causes. She is, of course, also the dedicated partner of Vermont’s Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy.
“Having known Marcelle since I interned in Senator Leahy’s office, I have seen first-hand her endless dedication to, and earnest love for, Vermont. She is an example of our state’s strongest and most sacred values,” said Gray. “Senator Leahy and Marcelle have taken to the world stage without ever losing sight of this special place we call home or the people we serve. As I said from the floor of the State House – Marcelle is a national treasure. I am honored to have her support in this historic race.”
Mrs. Leahy went on to say, “Lt. Governor Molly Gray and I share a love of Vermont, an understanding of the need for childcare, paid family and medical leave and affordable health care for every Vermonter, and a commitment to serving the people of Vermont. Her work in Congress with Patrick and Peter will give her an important head start on the work ahead. I am supporting Lt. Governor Gray because it is time Vermont sent a woman to Congress and she is the right woman for the job.”
Gray also has the support of former Vermont governors Madeleine Kunin and Howard Dean, five major unions including the VSEA, AFGE, NAGE-SEIU, SMART, and NASRCC, as well as from national organizations including Foreign Policy for America, The Next 50, and the American Association for Justice.
