About

The NewDEAL is a selective center-left network of state and local elected leaders from across the nation. Our mission is to scour the country to lift up the best and brightest elected officials who are pragmatic and get results – including councilmembers, county executives, mayors, state legislators, and state-wide leaders below the level of governor. We promote their ideas for expanding opportunity, spurring economic growth, and creating broadly shared, sustainable progress.

NewDEAL Leaders are on the forefront of addressing critical issues, including: climate change, voting rights, education, broadband access, high-quality childcare, and housing. Through virtual and in-person meetings, NewDEAL brings leaders together to exchange lessons learned and ideas with one another as well as with issue-area experts from non-profits, the private and philanthropic sectors, and the federal government. Through working together, innovative ideas can be implemented coast to coast, bringing about real, tangible progress to communities.

The NewDEAL network has a history of identifying, cultivating, and supporting a diverse array of rising Democrats who were part of the network before becoming national figures, like U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, former state legislator Stacey Abrams, and 15 current and former members of Congress. One in four members have moved to higher office since joining the NewDEAL, with others taking on additional leadership roles. The network’s honorary co-chairs are U.S. Senator Chris Coons (DE) and Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10).
