Michael Blake

Michael A. Blake is a former Assembly Member in the New York State Assembly representing the 79th District in The Bronx, New York. In early 2007, Michael joined then Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign, serving in director position throughout several key states including Michigan Deputy State Director for the general election. After the election, Blake joined the White House staff as the Associate Director of Public Engagement and Deputy Associate Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, where he created the White House Urban Entrepreneurship Summit series: a series which sought to foster public, private and not-for-profit partnerships and provide strategic advice in seven cities across the nation.

Blake left the White House to serve as the national deputy director of Operation Vote for President Obama’s 2012 re-election and helped expand the diverse electorate that later re-elected the president, leading to historic turnout among constituencies nationwide.

Born and raised in The Bronx, New York to Jamaican immigrants, Blake was first elected to the Assembly in 2014, fighting for issues such as Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs), education, community learning, building sustainable communities, equality for all and empowering young men of color. Blake served as the only state legislator on the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance national advisory board and was a board member of iVOTE, which focuses on protecting voting rights across the country. In February, 2017 Blake was elected Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee where he oversaw Local and Municipal Elected Official Outreach, as well as millennial and African American engagement.

Dorcey Applyrs

Chief City Auditor | Albany, NY







Dr. Applyrs currently serves as Albany’s Chief City Auditor. She was appointed by Mayor Kathy Sheehan to serve in this capacity on January 1, 2020.  Prior to her appointment as Chief City Auditor, Applyrs served on the Albany Common Council representing the City’s First Ward. She was elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. During her second term, she served as Chair of the Public Safety Committee.
Dr. Applyrs has earned a master’s degree and doctorate in public health from the University at Albany School of Public Health. She remains actively involved with her alma mater. Dr. Applyrs serves as Clinical Associate Professor in the Health Policy, Management, and Behavior Department and member of the Dean’s Advisory Council and Community Advisory Council. She also serves as the Subject Matter Expert for the School’s Center for Public Health Continuing Education and sits on the Albany County Board of Public Health.
Dr. Applyrs is highly engaged with the Albany community. She served as the Vice President for Community Health Initiatives with the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region and a former board member. She currently serves as board member for Eleanor’s Legacy, The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY,  Center for Women in Government and Civil Society, and the Capital District New Leaders Council.
